Energy Grants

Funding Church Energy Projects

The Katy Gerke Memorial Fund

The Katy Gerke Memorial Fund was established to honor the memory of Dr. Katy Gerke and to help Christian congregations in New Hampshire to lower their church buildings’ carbon footprint. As an interdenominational organization, NHIPL is also actively seeking similar funding sources for groups representing other faith traditions.

Funds from this program can be used by churches to:

  1. Obtain professional energy audits of their buildings.

  2. Undertake energy efficiency projects, e.g. building or equipment improvements that will reduce the energy use of their church buildings

  3. After energy efficiency projects have been done, undertake renewable energy projects that will lower the building’s carbon footprint.

Criteria and guidelines to obtain a professional energy audit or to request funds for an energy efficiency or renewable energy project:

  1. All grants require matching funds of at least 50%.

  2. Projects with Gerke match of under $5,000 are encouraged. Larger projects may be considered up to a Gerke match of $10,000.

  3. The facility must be owned by a Christian faith community in New Hampshire, in a long-term lease, or have the building owner’s permission. (NHIPL is seeking similar funding sources for other faith communities.)

  4. Generally, the following activities are not funded: building renovations, window replacements, or any project without cost-effective energy savings.

All projects will require a recent energy audit that will be requested as part of the full application process.

When finished, please email us a copy of your energy audit proposal which will complete the application.

Please allow up to 30 days for a response after we receive your completed application.
